‘Tis the season to down copious amounts of egg nog! This is the first year I’ve had rum with my egg nog. Whoo weee!! Delicious is an understatement. I received a bottle of Old Tom’s Original Egg Nog which already has the rum mixed in to it. It seriously knocked my socks off. I poured a glass over ice and spent the next 20 minutes trying to find my socks. You can find Old Tom’s at the LCBO if you live in Toronto.
If you are the domestic type and want to tackle making your own egg nog, here is a recipe for you. I have yet to tackle this! Perhaps I’ll do it over the holidays!
- 6 oz rum
- 6 oz bourbon whiskey
- 6 beaten eggs
- 6 oz sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 15 oz whipping cream
- 15 oz milk
Mix milk, cream, salt and sugar in a large bowl. Beat until the sugar is disolved
Whip the eggs well until they get a little frothy
Add the eggs to the milk and cream mixture. Continue to whip the mixture. It will start to get thick and fluffy.
Now is the fun part, add the Rum and Bourbon and keep mixing until it is blended well. Taste it to see if there is enough booze for your taste. Add as much as you feel the need to!
Chill in the fridge for an hour or so
When you are ready to serve it , give it a quick whipping to froth it up a little , ladle it into cups & sprinkle a little nutmeg on top.
MMMM…I’m officially craving egg nog right now.
